Join the Canal Society of New Jersey and be part of a community dedicated to preserving, protecting, and celebrating the history of New Jersey’s historic towpath canals. Your membership helps us continue our mission to educate the public, maintain historical sites, and promote the legacy of these remarkable engineering feats.

About Membership
By joining the Canal Society of New Jersey, you will become a member of an organization that provides historical education and preservation of New Jersey’s two towpath canals and will have a good time doing it. We offer a wide range of activities that accomplishes these goals, while also providing fun and education.
Some of our activities include:
- Maintaining our Canal Museum at Waterloo Village, where the public can learn about the history of New Jersey’s canals.
- Conducting historical research and publishing articles in our newsletter.
- Educating the public through our Program Meetings, Symposiums, and Canal Days at Waterloo Village.
- Protecting and preserving canal remains by partnering with counties, municipalities, and other historical groups.
- Clearing towpath trails along the two canals.
- Providing tours and hikes of canal locations, or other related historical sites.
- Taking part in canal-related events that are provided by other groups.
In addition, every Canal Society member will receive a printed copy of On the Level, our newsletter that is published three times a year.
Membership Details
All members will receive a printed copy of the Canal Society’s newsletter, On the Level.
The annual membership fee is $25.00 per individual or family. Payment may be made by check or credit card.
