About Volunteering

Volunteers are the heart of the Canal Society of New Jersey. By sharing your time and skills, you help maintain historical sites, educate the public, and keep our canal heritage alive for future generations. Opportunities range from hands-on activities to educational roles, including:

  • Waterloo Canal Days: Bring history to life by helping with special events, guiding tours, and engaging with visitors.
  • Greenway Trail Maintenance: Assist in preserving the beauty and accessibility of canal towpath trails through clean-up and maintenance projects.
  • Archiving and Preservation: Support the cataloging, archiving, and conservation of historical documents, artifacts, and photographs.

Practical Details

No prior experience is necessary—just a passion for history and a willingness to learn. Training is provided to ensure you feel confident and prepared in your volunteer role.
