Visit Waterloo Village
Waterloo Village, an authentic 19th century village that developed on the banks of the Morris Canal, is open daily dawn to dusk. It makes for a nice stroll along the historic buildings and along a water-filled section of the old Morris Canal.
The site is overflowing with native wildflowers and plants. Wildlife is abundant in the wooded environment and the Waterloo Vernal Pool is an important breeding ground for amphibians.
In Waterloo Village on Saturdays from June 21st to Oct. 25th , 10am to 4pm, The Canal Society Museum, the Highlands Canal Boat Exhibit (White Barn), and Gristmill are open. There are Canal Society of NJ docents to provide a historical tour of the exhibits of the Morris Canal and The Delaware and Raritan Canal. In the museum, there are numerous artifacts and exhibits on both canals which traversed New Jersey.
The Highlands Canal Boat Exhibit contains a preserved 10-foot bow section of a Morris Canal boat and other boat artifacts and exhibits.
